TRIO
(Tic Related Impact on Occupations)
TRIO aims to enroll about 300 adults living with tics. After joining the registry, you will be invited to participate in TRIO, if you are eligible. TRIO participants fill out surveys too help us better understand how tics impact day to day life.
Goal
The goal of TRIO is to gather information about the impacts of tics on daily life. We know that tics can impact people in different ways. By getting information from a large group of people from different backgrounds, we can better understand the different ways that tics get in the way of doing the things that people need or want to do. Another goal of the study is to learn about the ways that people use tools to help them complete tasks that are difficult for them.
Why is it important?
Our hope is that the information we gather through TRIO will help us change the way we think about and treat tic disorders. Right now, treatment for tics usually focuses on making tics happen less. This approach does not always result in improvements of day-to-day life. For example, individuals with tics might experience less tics after treatment but are still not able to complete the activities they need or want to do throughout their day. Our hope is that by getting a better understanding of the challenges that individuals with tics face, we can shift the focus of tic treatment towards helping people achieve the goals that they want achieve.
